ROUND 1
With sunshine and warm temperatures returning to Mount Vintage for the opening round of the 9th Annual Carolinas Georgia Junior, players were dressed in shorts and taking aim at the Mount Vintage course. Leading the charge with low scores in the boy’s division is Columbia’s Ryan Marter. The Wofford College signee fired an opening round 66, which included eight birdies. The six under par round sets a new tournament record for the lowest 18 hole score. Four shots back of Marter is current Georgia State Amateur Champion, Colin Bowles of Albany. Four other boys were able to break par on day one by firing one under par rounds of 71. In all, fourteen players were able to post par or better rounds on day one.

In the girl’s division, there is a logjam at the top with three players firing one under par rounds of 71. That group is led by current South Carolina POY Gracyn Burgess of Lexington. Joining Burgess are Jensen Castle of West Columbia and Amanda Sambach of Davidson. Lurking one shot back of the leaders is Caroline Cahill after opening with an even par 72.

In the team competition, North Carolina takes an eight shot lead into day two over South Carolina and a seventeen shot lead over Georgia. North Carolina is the three time defending champion in the team competition.

Another great day of weather is expected for the final round.
