PERRY AND CHAPMAN PREVAIL AT MOUNT VINTAGE

South Carolina Takes Team Title

A front nine four under par 32 gave overnight leader, James Chapman a commanding six stroke lead heading into the final nine holes of the 2010 Carolinas Georgia Junior Championship. The Appalachian State commitment made five birdies on the Vintage nine and never looked back. He added another two birdies and three bogeys on the Chester nine heading in to complete a three under par round of 69 to go with his opening round 70 to tie the tournament record of five under par and a seven shot victory. Three players tied for second place, Stephen Behr of Florence, Chandler Brazeal of Aiken, and Thomas Bradshaw of Columbia. Behr fired a two under par 70, one of five under par rounds in the boys' division on Monday to grab a share of second place. The Wofford bound Brazeal followed up his first round 72 with a two over par 74 on day two. Bradshaw, a Clemson commitment, finished day two with a three over par 75. Alone in fifth place after a second round 76, was Anders Albertson, of Woodstock, Georgia.

While Chapman was in command of the boys' division, the girls' division was far from over as the girls made the turn toward the Chester nine. First round leader, Carrie Metz (Kennesaw State), held a two shot lead thru 27 holes over Katherine Perry (North Carolina) and a three shot lead over McKenzie Talbert and Allison Emery. After a double bogey on the 10th hole by Metz and a par by Perry, the two were tied with eight holes remaining. Playing in the final group together, the two matched pars on the 11th hole before Perry grabbed the lead with a birdie on the 12th. Not to be denied, Perry played flawlessly on her way in, adding birdies at the par 3 fifteenth and the par 4 seventeenth to complete a backnine 33 and a tournament record two under par 70, giving her a four shot victory over Metz. Talbert finished alone in third place after a second round 74. Emery, also with a final round 74, finished solo fourth.

In the team competition, first round leader South Carolina held off a furious finish by defending team champion North Carolina to capture the team competition by 3 strokes. The team competition is a friendly competition between the three states in which the low eight scores for the boys and the low four scores for the girls are totaled each day and the two day summary determines the overall team champion.

Players were met with sunny skies and warm temperatures for the final round. Over 40 collegiate head and assistant coaches were on hand to get another look at their recent signees/commitments and future recruits. Outright leaders emerged in both the boys' and girls' divisions as play was completed on day one of the 2nd Annual Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship. James Chapman, of Gastonia, North Carolina, fired a two under par 70 to take a one stroke lead over Anders Albertson, of Woodstock, Georgia and Thomas Bradshaw, of Columbia, South Carolina. Alone in 4th place with an even par round of 72 is Chandler Brazeal, of Aiken, South Carolina. In the girls' division, Carrie Metz, of Buford, Georgia fired a two over par 74 to lead Edgefield's Anne Marie Covar by one shot. North Carolina's Katherine Perry is another shot back after posting a four over par 76. Scoring was difficult as the already wet conditions from two inches of rain the night before saw additional rain two different times during the day.
